A Hockey Journal

A Hockey Journal is the newest of its kind in the UK. Focusing on the world of British Ice Hockey, this magazine approaches the most watched indoor sport in the UK and gives it a physical platform in which could attract the attention of not only the ice hockey community, but also those who would like to know more about the Canadian sport. A Hockey Journal is filled with facts and figures as well as real experiences from athletes to those behind the scenes.

The magazine includes a variety of different pieces, from in-depth features to the fans point of view. I wanted to get the readers involved, I therefore tweeted asking people what their favourite thing about ice hockey was. I was astonished by the number of replies I received. I feel its key to keep the readers engaged and by involving the fans before the magazine had been released was a good start.

I have used designed the magazine in a way that it’s not too compact, or text heavy. I have used images to break up the text and to bring a visual aspect to what could be interpreted as complicated. This was my first attempt at creating a magazine, I know there is much work to be done to improve, but I feel that this is not only a start for me as a journalist but for the future of ice hockey in print.
