As one of the only fluent welsh speakers on my undergraduate course I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to complete two weeks of work experience at the BBC. During my time there I worked with a number different of departments and shows. I began my week with the popular welsh phone in show Taro'r Post. I spent a week with the radio show and during this time I helped arrange interviews with guests, live and pre recorded, over the phone and in studio. I was also given the opportunity to help produce the morning programme during a late shift with the production team who gave me an introduction to the software the BBC use for editing and live shows ( Editing software - Jupiter).
My time in the second week was split between two departments, BBC Cymru Fyw and Newyddion 9. This gave the ability to observe all journalistic departments during my time at the BBC. When with BBC Cymru Fyw, I was taken in to observe the morning news meeting, where all the news departments across the Welsh BBC network discuss the main news stories of the day and co-ordinate the welsh language news channels output with BBC Wales Today's output. During my two days with BBC Cymru Fyw I was shown the different roles within the online teams, including the magazine (cylchgrawn) department. They concentrate mainly on the feature aspects of news.
Mid week I moved to the welsh language news channel Newyddion 9. During my time at Newyddion 9 I observed the production of the news bulletins and the main news show. I was also given the opportunity to edit a few U'lays for the live programme. This gave me the ability to show the producers and editors what I can do, especially when working with a new software.
My time at the BBC was very worthwhile in terms of learning and gaining a clear understanding of the BBC itself and the way in which they produce news.
